The Monthly Bethel Buzz – September 2019

Welcome parents to the Bethel Preschool Monthly Newsletter. This newsletter will be sent out every month to inform you of all of the events within the preschool as a whole. For individual classroom information, please check your child’s folders for their teacher’s newsletters and or calendars.

Fundraising

Fundraising is an important part of the preschool to raise money for fun events for the children and specific needs of the preschool. We have several easy ways to help out our program.

Scholastic Book Club.

By ordering books for your child not only are you encouraging learning and reading but you are earning free books for your teachers and their classrooms to be shared by all. Reading is one of the most rewarding gifts to a child. Each month a new Scholastic form will be sent home. Please take a look and begin that love of reading with your family.

Chick-Fil-A Night.

On the third Wednesday of every month, the Preschool will host a fundraiser night at Chick-Fil-A at Westchester Commons from 5:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. When you place your order just say it is for Spirit Night. The preschool will receive a percentage of the food sales from our night. When you finish eating, come and visit me to take a spin on the wheel to win prizes. Each spin is a dollar. Every dollar made from the wheel goes directly to the preschool!

Wheel-A-Thon.

The preschool will be holding a Wheel – A-Thon to benefit the preschool’s Scholarship Fund. This is an exciting event for the children. On Tuesday, November 12th
, your child will get to bring their decorated bike, scooter, or big wheel and helmet to ride during their outside time in a special designated area in the paved parking lot. The purpose of this event is to help raise money for the Preschool Scholarship Fund which helps families in need of financial aid. More information will be sent home in October so please be on the lookout for it.

Special Events

Please join me in the People of Hope Center on Thursday, September 19th from 9:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. for our annual Welcome Back Parent Coffee. I would love to have the opportunity to talk to you one on one and answer any questions you might have about our program, your children, the teachers and to get to know you better.

Field Trip

The Preschool will have its first field trip of the year on October 8th at Lloyd Family Farms in Rockville, VA. We will be going to the pumpkin patch to pick out pumpkins and then have a chance to explore all the fun sights of an actual working farm. Please be on the lookout for more information to follow soon. We can’t wait to see you there.

School Pictures

Let’s not forget the best part of October. Our Preschool Picture Day will be held on Tuesday, October 15th. Dress up your child in their finest to have pictures taken by Jennifer Gavin of Jennifer Gavin Photography. We will be taking individual and class pictures at this time. Jennifer even offers specialty items that would be perfect for the holidays. An order form will be sent home the week before pictures.

Thank you so much for sharing your children with Bethel. It is a privilege and an honor to teach your child and to get them ready for their next milestone in life.

The Monthly Bethel Buzz – May 2019

Another school year is almost at its end. We have so much enjoyed being with your children this year. Every minute has been filled with exciting adventures, lots of fun and tons of love. We hope that you and your child have had a wonderful experience here at Bethel. To those families who would like for your child to continue their journey with our preschool, please remember to register him or her for the next school year as soon as possible for spaces are filling up. To those families whose children will be graduating from Bethel, we wish you the best on your next stage of your educational journey. We know you will do awesome!
In the month of May, we like to celebrate some very special women in our lives. On Thursday May 2nd we would like to celebrate all the moms and mother figures in our lives. Each class will be hosting a Muffins for Mom event. Please join your child at 9:45 a.m. for a brief program presented by the class followed by a small reception in the classroom. We look forward to seeing you there!

Bethel Baptist Preschool will be going on their annual Richmond Metro Zoo Field Trip on Tuesday May 7th at 9:45 a.m. This is such an exciting time for our students and families to explore the amazing world of wild animals in a safe environment. Additional information will be sent out separately pertaining to this event. Please be on the lookout for it in your child’s folders.

Our next Chick-Fil-A Night will be held on Wednesday May 15th at Chick-Fil-A in Westchester Commons. I would like to thank both church families and the preschool families for coming together to help support our preschool. Come and join us for food and fun and don’t forget to stop by and spin the wheel for a chance to win prizes. I hope to see everyone there!

May Scholastic book orders will be due by May 14th. This will be our last chance to order books for this school year. With the summer months just around the corner, this is an amazing way to keep your children “learning” and engaged during this time. Help support the love for adventure, education, and imagination by purchasing a book from Scholastic.

Bethel Baptist Church is our biggest supporter of the preschool. They love the program and the children, families and staff within this preschool. On Sunday, May 19th during the 10:30 church service, the preschool will be recognized by the church. This is such a wonderful event for the preschool. The entire service is about the preschool and its students. The children will perform two songs for the congregation and their families followed by a “graduation” for the Pre-K classes. After the service a luncheon will be held in honor of the preschool. We look forward to seeing you on Preschool Recognition Sunday.

Our last day of preschool will be Wednesday, May 22nd. On Thursday, May 23rd there will be no school. Instead we would like to invite all the preschoolers and their families to join us for our annual school picnic. Please come at 10:30 a.m. and meet us out at the playground where we can talk and have lots of fun. Please be sure to wear sunscreen, bring your lunch and a drink. I will be providing a huge birthday cake to celebrate all my kids who have summer birthdays! We can’t wait to see you all there.

If you are wondering what to do with your children during summer vacation, look no further. Bethel Baptist Preschool will be hosting a camp this summer. Bethel Secret Spy Camp will be held from June 3rd – June 6th and is open to all preschoolers who are potty trained and will be three by September 30th. The camp is $90.00 and will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a lunch break. We will be sending out registration forms with additional information on it for your consideration. All registration forms must be turned in no later than May 23rd. We are so excited to be able to bring this fun filled camp to you and your child and look forward to seeing you there!

As always, thank you for sharing your children with us. It has been a privilege and an honor to help them grow into the young people they are today. The Monthly Bethel Buzz – April 2019

Spring has sprung and with it comes warmer weather, April showers, longer days, budding flowers and trees and of course allergies!  April is always an exciting time for the preschool. The children will begin to learn about the season and what it brings with it. The life cycles of animals, insects and plants will be studied. Students will learn ways to take care of their environment and celebrate Earth Day. Our Pre-K class will also be getting ready for Kindergarten Registration which will be held at all Elementary Schools on Thursday, April 11th. And of course, the biggest thing in April is EASTER! April is a very busy month for everyone here at Bethel!
Please note that the Preschool will be closed for the week of April 1st through the 5th in observance of Spring Break.   We will see you back on Monday, April 8th.

This year, I have a very special surprise for our classes. I always like to do a lifecycle experiment with the children so this year we will be planting our very own vegetable garden. The school has been gifted a clear garden boxes to plant carrots and green beans in. As the plants root and sprout the children will be able to watch each step through the clear box! If my plan works, the children may be more interested in eating their vegetables after seeing them grow!

I would like to remind all parents of those children who are rising Kindergartners that Kindergarten Registration will take place on Thursday April 11th. Please be on the lookout in the mail for a postcard from your school district. The post card will tell you which school to register your child in, the times you may come to register and what items you may need to bring with you at time of registration. The preschool will still be open on that Thursday with the understanding that children in the Pre-K class will be coming and going due to their registration times.

Our next Chick-Fil-A Night will be held on Wednesday April 17th at Chick-Fil-A in Westchester Commons. I would like to thank both church families and the preschool families for coming together to help support our preschool. Come and join us for food and fun and don’t forget to stop by and spin the wheel for a chance to win prizes. I hope to see everyone there!

All classes will be learning about the true meaning of Easter this month.  Each class will hold their own individual party on Thursday April 18th in their classrooms. Along with the party, each class will have their own Easter Egg Hunt on sectioned off parts of the Bethel Grounds. Please be on the lookout for additional information from your teacher.

April Scholastic book orders will be due by April 25th. Every time a book order is placed through Scholastic, the preschool earns a free book for the classroom. Children love books because they can transport them anywhere, to any time or place. It becomes a magical exciting adventure for them. Help support that love for adventure, education, and imagination. Purchase a book from Scholastic.

As always, thank you for sharing your children with us. It is a privilege and an honor to help them grow into the young people they are to be. Please have a wonderful and safe Easter Break and we will see you when we get back!

This is such an amazing fundraiser for the preschool and Chick-Fil-A has been so impressed with our numbers so let’s see if we can keep up the good work!  Come and show your support by having dinner at Chick-Fil-A. Remember to say you’re there for Spirit Night so Bethel can receive the credit and don’t forget to stop by and spin the wheel for a chance to win prizes.

I would like to thank all of you who have supported the preschool by purchasing books from Scholastics. By ordering books for your child not only are you encouraging learning and reading but you are earning free books for your teachers and their classrooms to be shared by all.  Because of your help, the preschool has earned 24 new books that are free to the school. Thank you for your support. Reading is one of the most rewarding gifts to a child. February Scholastic book orders will be due by February 22nd.

As always, thank you for sharing your children with us. It is a privilege and an honor to help them grow into the young people they are to be. Have a warm and fun filled February!

The Monthly Bethel Buzz – January 2018

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New year over the holiday break! We have missed all the children and are excited to get back into the swing of things. The month of January brings the excitement of winter weather. The classes will be learning about the winter season and all the things it brings.

With that being said, I would like to remind all of our parents that the preschool follows
Chesterfield County Schools when it comes to inclement weather. If Chesterfield County is closed then the preschool is closed. If Chesterfield is on a two hour delay, the preschool will open at 11:30 and close at 1:30. If a delay happens on a lunch bunch day and your child is scheduled to stay, lunch bunch will take place and children will stay until 2:45. Our first priority is the safety of our children and staff. Please stay tuned to your televisions this winter season.

Medarva will be coming to the preschool on Tuesday, January 9th to perform free vision and hearing testing to all of our students in the 3 year old classes and our Pre-K classes. This is a quick and simple test for your child to ensure that their vision and hearing are where they need to be at this time. A consent form will be sent home so be sure to be on the lookout for it. The preschool will be closed on Monday January 15th in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Please be sure to mark your calendars accordingly. Our next Chick-Fil-A Night will be held on Wednesday January 17th at Chick-Fil-A in Westchester Commons. It is so nice to see both church families and the preschool families come together to help support our preschool. Just a reminder that the preschool must be able to make over $300.00 in food sales to continue holding our fundraisers. This is such an amazing event for the preschool. Let’s see if we can continue our success! Come and show your support by having dinner at Chick-Fil-A. Remember to say you’re there for Spirit Night so Bethel can receive the credit and don’t forget to stop by and spin the wheel for a chance to win prizes. By ordering books for your child not only are you encouraging learning and reading but you are earning free books for your teachers and their classrooms to be shared by all. Reading is one of the most rewarding gifts to a child. January Scholastic book orders will be due by January 25th. Our teachers will be doing student assessments during the month of January. These assessments help the teachers to gauge where your child is developmentally as well as academically. Preschool will be closed on Tuesday, January 23rd to discuss with you in detail your child’s progress at our Parent / Teacher conferences. Each family will be assigned a time slot of 15 minutes for your conference. Please keep a look out for additional information from your teacher. As always my door is open if you have any questions and or concerns. Please do not hesitate to contact me. Once again, thank you for sharing your children with us. It is a privilege and an honor to help them grow into the young people they are to be. Have a safe and fun filled January!

The Monthly Bethel Buzz – November 2017

October is coming to an end while November is just on the horizon. We have so much to do and so little time to do it in but the kids will be troopers and carry on like champs. With November, ends the excitement from Halloween and begins the excitement for the upcoming Holidays. November is the time for being Thankful for what we have which can be an abstract thought for children at this age. We will be focusing on this important concept this month.

I would like to say thank you to all of the families who helped make the Preschool’s 4th Annual Yard Sale such a success. The preschool raised $345.75. This money will go toward the Preschool Scholarship Fund. Way to go Bethel! Parents, please be aware that Bethel Preschool follows the Chesterfield County School Systems Calendar. The preschool will be closed on Monday November 6th and Tuesday November 7th for Elections. If you have the chance, take your preschooler to vote with you. Their minds are like sponges and are open to new experiences. Let your child see what elections are all about even if they don’t understand in full. This is an amazing learning opportunity for them. Another huge thank you is in order. Our Chick-Fil-A Night which was held Wednesday October 18th at Chick-Fil-A in Westchester Commons was a huge success. Both church families and the preschool families came together to try and help the preschool reach our goal which we were just shy of. This is such an amazing fundraiser for the preschool. The preschool receives a percentage of the food sales which will be put into our scholarship fund. Our Chick Fil-A Night for November will be held on Wednesday November 16th from 5:00p.m. till 8:00 p.m. Let’s see if we can reach our goal! Come and show your support by having dinner at Chick-Fil-A. Remember to say you’re there for Spirit Night so Bethel can receive the credit and don’t forget to stop by and spin the wheel for a chance to win prizes.

Bethel Preschool’s Picture Day went off with a bang. All the children looked handsome and beautiful dressed in their finest. Photographer Michelle Proctor of Michelle Proctor Photography has all of the school pictures up and live on her
(contact us for the password). Please place your orders today! Michelle even offers specialty items that would be perfect for the holidays.

By ordering books for your child not only are you encouraging learning and reading but you are earning free books for your teachers and their classrooms to be shared by all. Reading is one of the most rewarding gifts to a child. November Scholastic book orders will be due by November 16th to ensure delivery in time for the Holidays. Please take a look and begin that love of reading with your family. A reminder to all that the Preschool Outreach Program items are due this month. Operation Christmas Child items are due November 9th and Powhatan Christmas Mother items are due by November 16th. This is a great way to teach your child how to do unto others as you would have others do unto you. Thank you for those who have already sent in items. The preschool has filled two shoeboxes for children of the Operation Christmas Child and one box with items asked for by the Powhatan Christmas Mother. Keep up the good work!
